Letter from the Chairman :-

2020/21 NEW COUNTY SEASON

To the county managers and membership

We have been looking into how we can improve the way we run the EBPF, and what changes can be made to improve us as an organisation.
When you compare England (EBPF) with other country’s Organisations, our player registration fee to become a playing member is one of the lowest, so as organisation when we are trying cover all basis and compete to give you the membership potential tournaments and good prize pots with the different tournaments on offer, Unfortunately the numbers just do not add up.
The organisation will always, going forward help towards costs for our international players, when travelling away for an international event, we can with the increase of player registration fees be able to do both: help with the International set up and offer bigger prize funds and potentially pay further down the list in our tournaments.
Therefore, the new season ahead the player registration fee will be £20 per person for all adults playing in the EBPF, and £10 per youth, which will give you free entry into our National singles event.
To qualify to play at Nationals in the singles event, you have to attend county matches and accumulate enough points to be within a chance of winning the title and being crowned National singles champion, prestigious in its own right.
After the season has finished any player who has finished in the top positions in your respective region, example below then you will qualify to play at the National finals 2021.
You can only play in one singles event, so if you decline your space then it will be offered down to the next ranking position within your region.
Mens 128 = top 16 in each region
Mens A/B/C will work with top 8 in Mens A/top 4 in mens B and C
Ladies 64 = top 8 in each region
Seniors 32 = top 4 in each region
Masters 32 = top 4 in each region

Some of the above will depend on regions being full: for example, if the masters do not increase in regions then the top 5 from the 6 regions and next best 2 from across the Country. If the Ladies stayed the same with 7 regions, then top 9 and next best 1 across the Country.

The above would start on the Wednesday and play will begin at 1pm as the numbers decrease, we would also be able to offer flyers, we are thinking on doing Scotch doubles flyers. Draws for the singles event will be made live so you would know what time to be there to play.

Matches at county finals for the singles will be 1 hour to complete, Mens first to 5 and Ladies first to 4. Masters and Seniors first to 4.

Regarding collecting points for the new season every section will get 10 points for the win and to make it fair for everybody, the bonus point will no longer be used.

Men’s A/B/C
(England Internationals) qualification for an England trial: will only be selected from the Mens A section.

Potential prize pot for the Mens singles=£6000
Potential prize pot for the Ladies singles=£2500
Potential prize pot for the Seniors singles= AGM
Potential prize pot for the master’s singles=AGM
Potential prize pot for the Youths singles=AGM

The target for every member playing for their said county they represent, is to be more reliable and attend all matches for your said county, so you have equal opportunity to win games throughout the season and gain enough points to qualify for the National singles.
We need to service not only the county, but also England. Peoples opinion regarding the England set up should be exactly the same for when they sign on for the county they want to represent.
The aim should be to play for the A Team and improve the county as a whole, and who knows qualify for the an International spot , the problem we have at present is we send our internationals on England duty and expect them to pay for everything whilst representing our organisation, well that needs to change and by increasing some fees, it will help to lighten some of the burden our players experience, as chairman I have to think about everybody, and even though we will be helping the international set up, we will also be putting money back into our organisation and be able to pay more prize funds out of the monies raised by EBPF player fees.
Topic for the AGM is do we stick with one payment for all sections, or do players who want to play in the Ladies/Mens section as well as the master’s and Seniors pay for 2 sections??? Something for the AGM.

I ask you all to convey to your players that being part of the EBPF means everything is taken into account and all parties have equal opportunity to be the best they can. Playing for your County and England go hand in hand.
On behalf of the Executive Committee

How was this decided without a membership vote?

This motion to double the fees, hasn't gone down well with my squad, especially as it wasn't voted on.
That with booking the National Finals on Mothers day is not helping.
We even have a county match next season on fathers day.

Mus
Is a 'youth' classed as any player under the age of 18 at the time of registration ?

A couple of points regarding the 2020/2021 NEW COUNTY SEASON posting above.

You've said 'When you compare England (EBPF) with other country’s Organisations, our player registration fee to become a playing member is one of the lowest' Surely, when compared to other countries, England has one of the highest memberships therefore generating more money. I think if you double the membership fee and then also ask players to pay twice if representing more than one section it will lead to less seniors/masters teams taking part. You are effectively QUADRUPLING the fee for a player in 2 sections.

You state singles matches at county finals will be 1 hour to complete, but you don't say what happens if they are not complete in that hour?

Mus
You only pay once and can play in sections allowed, as far as I have read.

west mids county teams would like our refunds for finals as we dont know if we will be going in october

Rambo
So is player registration £20 for this county season 2021/22?
If you play A/B or C plus Seniors is that one cost or 2?
Also do players get a registration card/number?

Mus
One cost for this season. Next season you have to pay the £20 plus £10 for any other sections you play in

Additional payments for seniors etc is totally impractical. Only players who are 'first choice' will register so most teams will end up short on a regular basis. Surely you register as a member of EBPF and should only pay 1 fee, which has already increased 100% in one go.
